Cynthia Gets Off Blood Pressure Medication

Cynthia, 63, spent decades battling obesity, high blood pressure, and joint issues, even undergoing gastric bypass and multiple surgeries. Struggles With Obesity and Failed Diets
Cynthia, now 63, spent most of her adult life morbidly obese and hypertensive. Weighing nearly 300 pounds in 2006, she had tried countless diets with short-lived success. That year, she opted for gastric bypass surgery, initially losing 85 pounds. But as time went on, the weight crept back, especially with the return of sugar and processed foods into her diet.

Joint Issues and Surgical Complications
Years of weight-related stress on her joints led to severe arthritis and the need for bilateral knee replacements. While the first surgery in 2014 went smoothly, the second in 2017 led to serious complications, including staph infections that required months of IV and oral antibiotics. These health struggles culminated in a diagnosis of primary and secondary lymphedema in 2018.

Turning Point: Discovering Keto and Keto Carnivore
In 2020, Cynthia’s sister introduced her to the ketogenic diet. Skeptical at first, Cynthia committed and quickly dropped 20 pounds in her first week. Starting at 269.9 pounds, she later refined her eating to lean more toward a keto carnivore approach. She focused on meats, eggs, and occasional low-carb vegetables like broccoli.

Reclaiming Health and Life
Today, Cynthia weighs 179 pounds and has been able to discontinue her blood pressure medications. Her back pain is gone, her bone health is stable, and her A1C improved from 5.8 to 5.0. While monitoring for occasional heart palpitations, her cardiologist attributes her past issues to long-term hypertension. Still, she feels stronger, healthier, and more in control of her life than ever before.

​Cynthia embraces her keto carnivore lifestyle, primarily eating meat, eggs, and bacon. Occasionally, she enjoys small servings of keto-friendly vegetables but finds her body thrives best with minimal carbs.
