From Lifelong Digestive Decline To Radical Nutritional Renewal
I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis in 2005 at the age of twenty-nine after a steady slide in digestive health throughout my late twenties. Five to ten uncontrollable bowel movements a day, blood-streaked stools, cramping pain, weight loss, and relentless lethargy became my daily reality. Immunosuppressant medication arrived with its own list of unwanted side effects, and although the drugs blunted the worst flares they never delivered lasting remission. High-dose steroids became a recurring companion whenever symptoms surged.

Exhausting Every Conventional And Alternative Avenue
Even while filling prescriptions I turned to a naturopath for guidance and tightened my already mostly vegetarian menu, convinced—on professional advice—that plant-based eating held the cure. In 2010 curiosity about healing escalated into full commitment: six months as a raw vegan followed by six months as a fruitarian. When those extremes failed I marched through every protocol I could find—GAPS, the Specific Carbohydrate Diet, low FODMAP, ketogenic, ketogenic vegan, paleo, and paleo vegetarian—each supplemented with an expensive arsenal of probiotics, herbs, fish oil, vitamins, and minerals. Tens of thousands of dollars later my condition still dictated life.

Discovering The Keto-Carnivore Concept
In July 2017 I listened to Dr. Shawn Baker discuss an all-meat lifestyle. Intrigued, I began a keto-carnivore experiment in early August. Six weeks of rib-eye, mince, and organ meat reduced blood and mucus, calmed urgency, eased psoriasis, and quieted chronic joint pain. Persistent diarrhea, however, convinced me active disease remained, so in late September I reintroduced vegetables. Within weeks the old pains, rashes, and inflammatory flares returned, and my immunosuppressant dosage climbed once more.

A Christmas Reset And Six Weeks Of Adaptation
Determined to test the protocol properly, I relaunched keto-carnivore on Christmas Day 2017. This time I anticipated digestive turbulence and countered it by raising the proportion of lean meat relative to fat. Over the next six weeks my gut steadily stabilized, loose stools resolved, and consistency normalized. By February I felt confident enough to cease every medication—no immunosuppressants, no steroids, nothing but food.

Eight Months Of Drug-Free Remission
Late August 2018 marks almost eight medication-free months. My routine is simple and deeply satisfying: generous portions of fatty beef, a daily coffee enriched with cream, occasional cheese, and the yolks of free-range eggs. There is no sense of restriction, only anticipation for each meal and gratitude for the miracle of normal digestion, clear skin, pain-free joints, and sustained energy.

Reflection And Hope For Others
​Thirteen years of frustration across mainstream medicine and alternative practice finally gave way to the healing I had sought once I embraced a nutrient-dense keto-carnivore template. I share this account so that others suffering from so-called incurable autoimmune disorders might learn of an option worth exploring. Healing can hide in the least expected place: a sizzling plate of steak and the courage to defy nutritional convention.
