Leo, a 35-year-old medical student with multiple sclerosis and severe digestive issues, regained his health and vitality through a keto-carnivore lifestyle, significantly improving his MS, memory, sleep, mood, and GI health.

Leo’s Recovery from Multiple Sclerosis and Gut Disorders with Keto-Carnivore
Living with Chronic Illness
My name is Leo. I'm a 35-year-old medical student from Italy. Since 2012, I've battled multiple sclerosis, and for over a decade, I also suffered from severe digestive issues.
I had irritable bowel syndrome and diverticulosis with recurring diverticulitis, which eventually led to a surgical resection of my sigmoid colon in 2017. While that resolved the diverticulitis, IBS, bloating, and general gastrointestinal discomfort persisted.
Early Treatment with Vitamin D Therapy
In 2015, I began a high-dose vitamin D therapy known as the Coimbra protocol, which successfully pushed my MS into permanent remission. However, the chronic symptoms remained. I dealt with poor memory, brain fog, chronic fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, mood issues, and was mildly obese. Studying became nearly impossible.
The Turning Point: Keto and Then Keto-Carnivore
A year ago, I started a ketogenic diet. It helped tremendously—my GI symptoms and MS improved. Then, in early June, I transitioned to a keto-carnivore diet. The results were nothing short of life-changing.
My anxiety vanished, my mood stabilized, my memory returned, and my mental clarity was restored. I could study again. Sleep came naturally—I now wake up rested without an alarm. Previously, I would sleep late and still feel exhausted.
Renewed Vitality and Energy
My energy soared. All my digestive issues disappeared. In the past year, I’ve lost 35 kilograms and reached a healthy weight. I exercise almost daily, no longer feel tired, and have gained significant muscle mass.
This dietary change gave me my life back after 10 years of suffering. I now take only 60,000 IU of vitamin D and have eliminated nearly all supplements.
A Complete Health Transformation
If I had to quantify my well-being: before MS, I was at 100%. After MS but before vitamin D therapy, I dropped to 0%. With vitamin D, I reached 30–40%. The ketogenic diet brought me up to 70–80%. And with the keto-carnivore diet, I feel like I'm at 130–140%. I genuinely feel better now than I did before my illnesses—like I’m 15 again.
What I’ve Learned
In the last five years, I’ve studied vitamin D extensively, and over the past year, I’ve learned about the vital role food plays in gut and immune health. I believe the root of most chronic diseases comes down to two factors:
1. Vitamin D deficiency, which affects immune regulation, sleep, neurological health, cancer risk, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, and more.
2. Inflammation and intestinal permeability, largely caused by smoking and diet. An inflamed gut triggers immune dysfunction, leading to various diseases, especially autoimmune conditions.
The keto-carnivore diet healed me, and I’m deeply grateful to Dr. Shawn Baker for sharing this path. If I can help others, I’m always available.
Best regards,
Leo
