Stephen, once a 402-pound martial artist disabled by psoriatic arthritis, severe psoriasis and relentless pain, reclaimed mobility, shed more than 220 pounds and left a decade-long opioid prescription behind after adopting a keto-carnivore way of eating that prioritizes meat, eggs and low-carb foods.

Searching For Hope Amid Rapid Decline
My downfall began in 2003 with a black-mold infection that left me deaf for two and a half months and opened the floodgates to weight gain, inflammation and immobility. Over fifteen years I added 200 pounds, lost the full use of my hands and feet to bone deformities from psoriatic arthritis, and found myself unable to work. By December 15 2017 I weighed 401.6 pounds, lived on disability benefits, relied on a cane for the twenty pain-filled steps I could manage, and could not grip a five-pound dumbbell. Conventional dietary advice only made me sicker.
Discovering Keto-Carnivore
Desperate, I scoured online channels for unbiased data on nutrition for someone non-mobile and arthritic. Every path led back to the same message: eliminate processed carbohydrates and embrace meat. After watching Dr. Shawn Baker on the Joe Rogan Experience, I committed to a keto-carnivore approach in January 2018, occasionally drifting toward keto for budget reasons but always feeling best when meat dominated my plate.
Transformation Beyond Weight Loss
Now I wake at 4:45 AM, walk three kilometres, lift weights, and return home to rouse my teenage sons for school. My psoriasis, once covering nearly eighty percent of my skin, has fallen below forty percent. By the end of 2018 I weighed 212.3 pounds and aimed calmly for 185 without deadlines. Meat also helped me taper off more than 100 mg of daily hydromorphone; switching from sugar to protein and fat reduced withdrawal agony, letting me leave opioids behind after ten grim years.
Surgeries, Setbacks And Surging Forward
An abdominal tear in January 2019 required surgery and a titanium mesh; recovery only deepened my belief in keto-carnivore healing. By April 29 2019 my weight reached 179.7 pounds. I walk up to eight miles a day, train with kettlebells, resistance bands and calisthenics, and often rise at 4:00 AM without an alarm to fit in yoga, long walks and flexibility work before my sons wake. My doctors are astonished; one operating-room nurse shifted from paleo to keto-carnivore after hearing my story.
