"By age 16, I had developed very severe scoliosis, and I had to have a major fusion surgery in my lower back to correct a dangerous 53% curvature in my lower lumbar spine," Tani recalls. The constant pain from this spinal condition and her numerous other ailments took a devastating toll on her mental health during her late teenage years. "I had a bit of substance abuse issues due to depression, and I started developing painful cystic acne and serious stomach issues that made eating even more challenging."
