Trey transformed his life through the keto-carnivore diet, experiencing remarkable improvements in digestion, athletic performance, anxiety, and depression. With a family history of celiac disease and colorectal issues, he discovered that eliminating plant foods and focusing on meat resolved his chronic diarrhea, skin problems, and heart palpitations. The 27-year-old former Division 2 football player not only achieved peak athletic performance but also overcame years of hidden anxiety and depression that had severely impacted his personal relationships and quality of life, proving that proper nutrition can address both physical and mental health challenges.

Trey's Multifaceted Transformation Through the Keto-Carnivore Diet

This is going to be a multifaceted account to explain my previous symptoms and ailments before I changed my diet. Apologies for the comprehensive nature of this testimonial, but it will be worth your time reading as it demonstrates the profound healing potential of the keto-carnivore approach across multiple health domains.

Previous Diet Versus Current Meat-Only Approach
I started following you on Twitter about 5-6 months ago and began incorporating more eggs and various types of meat into my diet. For the past 2-3 months, I've gone all meat, focusing mostly on steak with some pork, with only a few cheat days that usually involved pizza or a hamburger with the bun. This transition to the keto-carnivore lifestyle has been gradual but increasingly strict as I've experienced the benefits.

Previously, my diet included a mix of meat, vegetables, and various carbohydrates without any specific framework or nutritional philosophy guiding my choices. I generally shopped and ate what I considered healthy meals while mixing in fast food, which I've completely eliminated now and have saved a lot of money in the process. The contrast between my previous scattered approach to eating and the focused simplicity of the keto-carnivore diet has been striking in terms of both health outcomes and financial benefits.

Celiac Disease and Suspected Colorectal Issues
I have two confirmed celiac family members, although the testing process never provides definitive confirmation but instead gives you a laundry list of items you supposedly have allergies to. One great, great family member, I believe my grandmother's grandmother, died in her early 30s of a colorectal issue, which I suspect is related to the same underlying genetic predisposition that affects our family's ability to process certain foods properly.

One family member affected is my grandmother on that side and my brother, both of whom have struggled with digestive issues and food sensitivities throughout their lives. I have never been tested myself because I always assumed that the allergies were overstated and didn't affect me significantly. Since I've switched to the keto-carnivore approach, my digestive system, bowel movements, and overall gut health have greatly improved, suggesting that I likely carry similar genetic susceptibilities that were being triggered by my previous diet.

Improved Digestive System and Skin Changes
I would make a smoothie in the morning prior to adopting this diet, using frozen berries, spinach, and other ingredients that are commonly considered healthy, and I would constantly have diarrhea afterward, like clockwork. This pattern was so consistent that I should have recognized it as a clear food sensitivity, but I had been conditioned to believe that these plant foods were beneficial and that my digestive issues were unrelated.

I can tell this improvement is directly related to the meat-only approach because whenever I have something other than meat for dinner, the next day brings flashbacks of my previous digestive distress. This immediate feedback has been incredible in helping me understand how different foods affect my body and has reinforced my commitment to the keto-carnivore lifestyle.

I also noticed a significant skin change since switching over to this way of eating. Previously, I had a persistent rash on the left side of my jaw that would itch and almost look like acne or chickenpox, creating both physical discomfort and self-consciousness about my appearance. This rash has since gone away completely but resurfaces when I go on a two-day stretch of eating foods outside of my keto-carnivore protocol, which fortunately doesn't happen anymore. Thus, I'm almost certain this skin condition is also directly related to the inflammatory foods I was consuming previously.

Athletic Performance Improvement and Pain Reduction
I'm also an athlete who comes from a family of athletes, and we take athletic performance very seriously, viewing it as both a personal standard and a family tradition. I played Division 2 football and excelled on my previous diet, and since college ended, I fell out of shape due to inactivity and drinking, with alcohol consumption being the primary factor in my decline.

I started taking working out seriously again about a year ago (I just turned 27), and I am a better athlete now than I was when I was 21 and going through a college system. I'm talking about improvements in speed, vertical jump, all lifts, and the greatest change has come from my stamina, which I previously always struggled with being a fast-twitch athlete who would tire quickly during extended activity.

Related to athletics, I used to stretch constantly in an attempt to maintain flexibility and prevent injury. I could touch my nose to my knees in a hamstring stretch but still always struggled with back issues and general aches and pains that were so severe they kept me up at night tossing and turning, significantly impacting my sleep quality and recovery.

Those aches and pains have since subsided and are no longer present ever, and I rarely stretch now, mainly because I just don't feel the need to. I feel like my muscles are pliable and ready at any instant for work, which I have a high sensitivity to and can immediately notice when my body feels different. I can jump in and play pickup basketball without warming up, stretching, or anything of the sort without experiencing muscle, knee, or back aches, which I find truly incredible. THIS WAS NEVER THE CASE BEFORE, and it represents a fundamental shift in how my body responds to physical demands.

Improvement in Heart Issues
I have had heart issues in the past that were concerning enough to require medical intervention and monitoring. I've seen multiple cardiologists for stress tests and pre-QT syndrome evaluation, and I've even ended up in the emergency room because my heartbeat was so out of rhythm that I nearly passed out, creating a very scary and disorienting experience.

It was a very frightening feeling that left me concerned about my long-term health and mortality. I used to have heart palpitations after I ate, which I found odd and concerning, and ironically enough, I ended up in the emergency room after I gorged on about 4 McChicken sandwiches from McDonald's, which in retrospect clearly demonstrates the connection between processed foods and my cardiac symptoms.

These palpitations are completely gone when I eat meat exclusively but arise when I eat something specifically containing gluten, soy, or generally anything unhealthy and processed, particularly foods high in sugar. But they are completely absent when I'm following a strict keto-carnivore diet, providing clear evidence that my heart issues were directly related to the inflammatory foods I was consuming rather than any underlying cardiac pathology.

Concussions and Cognitive Issues
While playing football in college, I sustained two serious concussions within a two-week span, just before the sports medicine community really got serious about sitting concussed athletes out for an extended time. This timing was unfortunate as I didn't receive the proper recovery protocol that would be standard today, potentially contributing to my ongoing cognitive issues.

Since then, I have struggled with cognition issues ranging from rage and anger that I could not explain or control to a general loss of thought clarity and feeling mentally cloudy throughout the day. These symptoms were particularly concerning because they seemed to come out of nowhere and didn't match my personality or previous emotional patterns.

These cognitive and emotional issues, for the most part, have subsided since adopting the keto-carnivore diet, which I am eternally grateful for as they were significantly impacting my quality of life. These problems were taking a serious toll on my personal life with my now-wife and my performance at work, creating stress and conflict in the most important areas of my life.

I feel like I am a better person now with a much more stable personality, and the unpredictable mood swings and cognitive fog have been replaced with mental clarity and emotional stability. This transformation has been truly life-changing and has allowed me to be the person I always felt I should be but couldn't access due to these neurological symptoms.

Personal Struggles with Anxiety and Depression
On another deeply personal note, I have struggled with anxiety, depression, and mainly social anxiety for YEARS, and I have not told anyone except my mother about this because she revealed the same struggles to me when I was about 13-14 years old. She could see me struggling with similar issues, and she let me know she was struggling as well, creating a moment of connection but also highlighting the hereditary nature of these mental health challenges.

For the next 13 years of my life, I hid these issues from everyone I came across, becoming skilled at masking my internal struggles while maintaining a facade of normalcy. Although it would be hard to tell that something was seriously wrong with me looking back, it had to be very obvious to those who knew me well that I was not operating at my full potential and was carrying a heavy emotional burden.

I was never suicidal to the point where I would take action, but the thought lingered in my head more often than I care to admit, creating a dark undercurrent to my daily experience. I feel guilty about this period of my life, and I feel like I wasted valuable time because I was not living up to my potential personally and in how I could affect positive change in others because I was so overwhelmed with what I was going through internally.

I'm proud to say that my depression has subsided significantly since adopting the keto-carnivore lifestyle. I struggle to say that it is completely gone because I want to be honest about my experience, but I know for a fact I don't feel the same way I used to. I feel confident in myself, and I feel confident in social situations, and my self-esteem, self-worth, and relationships with others have improved tenfold.

It is truly incredible how much my mental health has improved, and I had been through the works of anti-anxiety medications, depression medications, and other pharmaceutical interventions that were supposed to help. They numbed me emotionally, and I could tell they were affecting my personality, but they didn't make me feel like myself or address the root cause of my issues.

Benefits of the Keto-Carnivore Diet
I now feel like a new person, which I can't thank you enough for facilitating through your research and advocacy. I know you're not the inventor of the keto-carnivore diet, but you were my primary source of information for it, so for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I still struggle with one thing, and that's being stubborn about seeking help or making changes, which is probably a character flaw that served me poorly in this situation. For all of the issues I've listed above, I was too stubborn to dig deep and really find a root cause for them, instead accepting them as inevitable aspects of my personality or genetic destiny.

And any fix that was thrown my way by medical professionals was essentially bandaids on an open wound that never healed because they weren't addressing the underlying inflammatory processes caused by my diet. I really don't know if I would've seen old age without this dietary switch, and although that sounds drastic, I believe it given the trajectory I was on with my physical and mental health.
The Power of Digging Deep
I was healthy on the outside and very physically fit but was self-destructing on the inside in every way possible, from my mental health to my digestive system to my cardiovascular health. I gave your keto-carnivore diet a shot, against the advice of my wife who was concerned about the unconventional nature of eating only meat, because I was willing to try anything at that point.
Mainly, I was looking for a way to get rid of my pesky heart palpitations because they were just a nuisance that was affecting my daily life and creating anxiety about my health. I had no idea that this dietary change would lead me out of my depression and give me a better life overall, addressing issues I didn't even realize were connected to my nutrition.
Once again, I am truly grateful for the work you're doing to spread awareness about the healing potential of the keto-carnivore approach. You're doing great work that is literally saving lives and improving the quality of life for people like me who had exhausted conventional treatment options.
Thanks for everything you do to advance this field and help people discover the transformative power of proper nutrition.
PS. I have preached this approach to my immediate family and my wife, and they are slowly adopting the keto-carnivore principles after seeing my transformation. I've also switched my dog over to eggs and meat, and he's nine years old now and runs around like he's 2, which provides additional evidence that this way of eating benefits all mammals, not just humans!
