Take Advantage of the Biologic Basis for Behaviors

Biology influences behavior, so why not make it work for you instead of against you?

Trying to “tough it out” when you’re working to remodel your eating behaviors is a very challenging endeavor. If you’re feeling the pressure, take a moment to realize that you’re not alone, and most people feel this way. Why is that? The answer is that the body, and its biological drive to eat the foods that you are accustomed to, is working against you. When you feel that you “failed,” it is really because biology isn’t on your side. How can we change that? Let’s take a look!

You may have started your day with a brief focus and gratitude session, considering your goals and visualizing how life will be when you’ve regained your health. That is wonderful! But, why do you find yourself sitting down with a bag of chips, or choosing that sweetened coffee drink instead of a black coffee or espresso?

Your body’s inability to stabilize glucose (yet) has caused a craving to manifest. When you gave in, it boosted your blood sugar and then your insulin, which then dropped your ketone levels. This causes your body to have additional leverage against your mind and can result in cravings overpowering willpower. Let’s opt for a different outcome.

Reset Your Biology

Why can some people ignore sweets or starchy dishes, while others seem magnetically drawn to them? Repeated lapses can chip away at your early excitement about restoring your health, so it’s time to work on resetting your biology so it helps instead of hinders your progress. This will take some willpower, but only for a short time.

These changes can be easier at first, when you’re excited to be in a new program and first feeling the effects of your low-carb diet and ketosis. Over time, excitement doesn’t carry most people, and it’s replaced with simple hard work.

During a reset after a lapse, you can rekindle some excitement, and focus willpower, but the more powerful strategy is getting insulin sensitivity to normalize, controlling blood glucose, and getting into ketosis again. The low-carb diet is your powertool for change.

Moderation Versus Abstinence

Your Revero nutrition therapy is designed to accomplish several key goals:

  • Normalize insulin levels
  • Restore insulin sensitivity
  • Bring your glucose levels within normal ranges
  • Eliminate excess inflammatory response

Together, these changes can crumble the foundations of food cravings, allowing you to feel more energy and less discomfort. The key is to commit to it 100% so that your biology begins to heal and adapt. Without cravings, you will be able to look at sweet or starchy food, recall what it tastes like, and easily choose to eat something else. Having your biology working for you is the key to regaining control over food choices!
